Sometimes the conventional wisdom only takes you so far. We’re reminded of this every time we hear someone say, “Gear doesn’t matter.” Gear backed by experience makes all the difference. Here’s what’s in kit at 24Frames — and why.

SONY A74

The Sony FX3,  and Sony A7S III look like traditional SLRs, but these mirrorless cameras pack quite a punch. Their full-frame sensors offer great dynamic range and high-ISO performance, and they also support a wide range of video formats and resolutions. With support for near field communication and Dolby Digital AC-3 Surround Sound recording, their capabilities are bigger than their diminutive size would suggest.

Why so much gear? We believe in backups, so that a body or lens malfunction won’t bring your production to a grinding halt. We’ve also learned from experience. Using the right tools for the job, in tandem with careful planning, shot setups, and storyboarding, means much less time spent on post-production. Taking a little extra time to get it right saves us time — and controls your costs — much better than trying to “fix it in post” later.
