Christmas Video Production: Creating the Look for Come Home for Christmas
Christmas video production is about more than decorating a set. It takes intentional lighting, thoughtful planning, and creative finishing to make every shot feel like it belongs to the same season.
For the final day of filming Come Home for Christmas, we worked inside a church sanctuary. I wanted the Christmas trees to provide most of the light, but during an early scout, I could see they wouldn’t give us enough control on their own. We added small lights to the wreaths along the aisle and used an overhead light that we could adjust to shape the scene.
Those additions gave us more control while keeping the sanctuary warm and seasonal. Lighting isn’t just about making a space bright enough. It helps establish the mood and guides the viewer’s eye through the frame.
Storyboarding helped us plan how the sanctuary’s details would work together on camera. We considered the composition, the visual rhythm, and how each element could contribute to the atmosphere.
The closing exterior shot brought a different challenge: it had been filmed in summer. To bring it into the visual world of the Christmas campaign, I used AI-assisted finishing to give the image a winter feel. It was a practical way to align footage from a different season with the look we wanted for the final piece.
From added light in the sanctuary to the finishing work on the exterior, each choice helped create a cohesive visual experience. The best production details support the story without drawing attention away from it.
The finished Come Home for Christmas film is coming December 1. Stay tuned.
