Laurie’s Story: The Final Chapter in Our Mid-America Plastic Surgery Testimonial Series

Laurie and her husband Tony live in a home filled with reminders of the places they’ve traveled together around the world. That part of their life became an important part of how we approached her story.

Rather than building the film around only an interview, we wanted the visuals to give people a glimpse into who Laurie is, how she lives, and the kind of world she and Tony have created together. The objects in their home carry history. They reflect a life of travel, shared experiences, and meaning collected over time.

Tony’s work as a blacksmith and woodworker gave us another layer to build from. One of the most personal details we brought into the film was a table he made for their home. This handmade table served as a place for Laurie's iPad as she did virtual yoga with her daughter in Brazil.

Those details gave the piece texture and personality. They helped the story feel lived-in. Instead of seeing Laurie only through the lens of a procedure, viewers get a better sense of her life, her routines, and the relationship she and Tony share.

At the center of all of it was Laurie’s long-standing frustration with the appearance of her arms. That was the personal complaint that shaped her decision and gave the story its emotional center. By surrounding that part of her story with meaningful details from her real life, we were able to create something that felt more personal, more visual, and more human.

Laurie’s testimonial story is the final chapter in the four-part series we created for Mid-America Plastic Surgery, and it was a fitting way to close the series.
